Surprisingly a Rabindrasangeet and a Nazrulgeeti has similar tune. Why ? Can anybody let me know ? Are they based on same Raaga of Hindustani classical music ?
Please listen and note the similarity in tune.
Alpo Loia Thaki Tai....a Rabindrasangeet by Subinoy Roy
Shunyo e buke ...a Nazrulgeeti by Dhiren Basu
Please listen and note the similarity in tune.
Both are based on movements of Raag "Chayanat" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQZo46zIS1o
ReplyDeleteMore of Tagores songs were also composed on the same raag.."Hridoy Basantabone Je Madhuri Bikashilo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufYcz6neEe8
Tomare koriyachi Jiboner dhrubo tara...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga8friqWvBQ
And recently I learnt an interesting story about how come both Rabi Thakur and Nazrul composed song on a similar tune..It could be highly possible that they were both impressed by the same raga. But the story is even more intriguing...Rabindranaths song "Alpo loiya thaki tai" was published in a song album anonymously in Shantiniketan..In those days there were couple of other instances where a Tagore song was published anonymously in Shantiniketan. The reason of course I don't know..Few years later Gyanoda Prasad Goswami, a famous singer unknowing about Tagore being the composer of this song recorded the song with some gramophone company..Later when Shantniketan came to know about this they stopped Gyan Goshai from publishing this record. At that instance in order to save his honor Nazrul composed a song based on same tune which was Shunnyo e buke..
Could you please tell me the source of this information.
DeleteThanks for answering my query. Now I know it is Chhayanot....but I must say you know a lot of music...otherwise it is not easy to answer this....I was looking for it quite sometime ...I asked many who could not tell me....Thanks again for illuminating me....
